Experience
WOMBO, Los Angeles, California (On-Site) - Backend Software Engineer
August 2024 - Present
- Developed w.ai - a distributed AI supercomputer network where consumers share their idle compute to power AI models.
- Built a cross-platform compute rental platform allowing users to rent consumer GPUs through ephemeral SSH/Jupyter Notebooks in a secure sandboxed environment with full GPU-passthrough utilizing Podman + Landlock on Linux, WSL2 + Podman on Windows, and sandbox-exec on macOS for NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, and Apple Silicon devices. Set up regional VPS routing across US/EU/JP/SG for low latency.
- Migrated w.ai's custom in-memory task queue system to a persistent BullMQ + Dragonfly queue with demand-based load balancing across worker hardware, substantially increasing task throughput and reliability across nodes.
- Developed the backend for petbo.ai from scratch built on TypeScript, Bun.js, ElysiaJS, Postgres + Drizzle ORM, Dragonfly, BullMQ, Firebase, and OpenTelemetry.
- Designed a custom hot-reloadable template system integrating with Vertex AI, OpenAI Sora, and FAL AI with history and revision support allowing product team to easily create and deploy new templates over the air.
- Significantly optimized monthly operating expenses by migrating most of WOMBO's servers from AWS/Azure cloud services to Hetzner bare metal VPSs.
- Managed all of WOMBO's infra and CI/CD pipelines through auto-scaling ephemeral self-hosted GitHub action runners with Kubernetes Actions Runner Controller (ARC).
- Set up custom blue-green Docker Compose deployments with automatic rollback on failure, ensuring zero downtime during releases.
- Set up automated PR unit testing, linter/formatting checks, and full end-to-end testing coverage across a heterogeneous fleet of devices testing Linux, Windows, and macOS through every GPU vendor and backend combination including NVIDIA CUDA, NVIDIA Vulkan, AMD ROCm, AMD Vulkan, Intel Vulkan, and Apple Metal.
- Managed WOMBO's former Bittensor SN39 EdgeMaxxing Subnet, where miners submitted optimized SDXL and Flux Schnell pipelines for consumer edge devices like the NVIDIA RTX 4090. Set up a secure Docker-based validator environment where submissions are evaluated for speed, VRAM usage, and cosine similarity against the baseline model.
- Wrote an anti-cheat cronjob that analyzed daily submissions with an LLM to detect copied/malicious code, ensuring fairness in the competition.
